June 24th: Dragged ourselves out of bed at 4am to catch a taxi to the airport to make our 7am flight to Dali. Once downstairs, the concierge explained that it was too early to call a taxi. “It would have been better to call last night,” she said. We walked dejectedly back to our room. We had called a taxi at 6am in previous cities, so our assumption that we’d be able to call a taxi at 5am was perhaps not so far-fetched. But we’ve learned our lesson: ask the night before.
